1 dead, 2 injured in Mount Vernon fire

One man died and two others were injured when a three-alarm fire tore through a multi-family home in Mount Vernon Thursday night.

Several residents of the building were displaced and were being aided by the Red Cross.

The fire reportedly started on the third floor of the Birch Street home just after 7:30 p.m. and quickly spread up to the fifth floor.

The fatality was not identified, but authorities confirm he was an elderly man.

The extend of the other two injuries was not clear, but they were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
