Steps away from downtown Brooklyn, fish are being breed on top of a building.
Ryan Morningstar and Miles Crettien are farming these fish. They've built a closed loop system which saves some nutrient pellets for the fish.
They are breeding Tilapia. The Tilapia started as 2 inch fry and now they're nearly two pounds each and ready to be eaten.
Part of their system is to donate the produce to the Myrtle Avenue Farmers Market. They've donate chard, cabbage, peppers and other produce.
The project cost $2000 to get started but the guys are calling it VertiCulture. Miles, Ryan, and their partners hope this operation will spawn into a viable urban agriculture business one that can also help economically challenged populations.LINK: MORE INFORMATION
