Hoboken PATH riders to get 30 days of free rides

NEWARK

The agency is giving 30 days of free PATH rides to Hoboken residents.

The Hoboken station was closed for seven weeks after Superstorm Sandy. It reopened Dec. 19.

The agency says the free rides are a show of appreciation after the storm crippled the PATH system.

The free SmartLink 30-day pass will be automatically added to the cards of Hoboken residents who are already registered SmartLink customers with 30-day passes.

The PATH is still operating with limited service. Trains stop running between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The Port Authority says the nighttime closures are necessary for repair work to get done.

The system will run overnight Dec. 31 to Jan. 1.
