Taxi driver killed in Queens hit and run

NEW YORK

19-year-old Roberto Depena is facing a laundry list of charges including manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. Police say Depena was drunk when he slammed into a taxi early Sunday morning on the Grand Central Parkway near Exit 17. His blood alcohol content was .08

On top of all of that, Depena left the scene, but his bumper had fallen off. Police ran his license plate, and arrested him at his home in Queens.

"I got a call from the detective that my brother did not survive the accident, so it is just a feeling that I don't wish for anybody," said the victim's brother, Sekou Dukuly.

Sekou was the one who had to identify the body at the morgue, because his mother was too distraught to go.

"The worst feeling is to know that a brother who has a 10-year-old daughter won't be able to look down the aisle and see his daughter marry," his brother adds.

Dukuly will be buried on Monday and his brother says the Islamic community in the Bronx will be paying for the funeral. They want any money Dukuly saved to be used for his daughter's education.
