George Zimmerman won't testify

July 10, 2013

That he was so scared by this unarmed black teenager in Miami last year, so beat up by him, that he fired his gun at the boy at point-blank range and killed him?

If it were you, and you believed your life was in danger and you killed Martin in self-defense, would you take the stand?

I know, I know, all the defense lawyers out there will complain that the issue isn't the truth, it's how exposed Mr. Zimmerman would be on the stand against the highly trained and aggressive prosecutors. The problem for the defense is that Zimmerman has already testified, so to speak, when he sat down for an extensive interview with Fox News. And that's already been played in court.

So while the defense lawyers for Mr. Zimmerman will say they're playing it safe, one wonders how the jury will view this testimony aversion.

We'll have the latest from the trial, tonight at 11.

Also at 11, he was shot 24 times by the four cops who had gone to his home after his wife complained he was drunk and was threatening her. Sante Cespedes, a chef in Essex County, New Jersey, was allegedly threatening the officers with kitchen knives – according to the cops. His family says he wasn't. And tonight we're learning that one of the cops didn't fire a single shot. So what really happened? We're taking a closer look.

And a remarkable tryout tonight on Long Island to play soccer for the New York Cosmos.

We profile one young man, the first player to graduate from the Cosmos youth academy and try to make it as a pro.

We'll also have any breaking news of the night, plus Meteorologist Amy Freeze (in for Lee Goldberg) with the unstable weather and severe storms that could move in and move out quickly tonight, and Rob Powers with the night's sports. I hope you can join Diana Williams (in for Sade Baderinwa), tonight at 11.
