"Veggie Van" mobile greenmarket brings fresh produce to Lower East Side

NEW YORK

Unloading boxes of fresh produce, Grow NYC Greenmarket is behind the new initiative, teaming up with local community groups to bring the much needed food to the people.

Residents who signed up got their first bags of produce in front of what used to be a large supermarket that shut down last year, leaving them, they claim, undeserved.

Now residents of the Lower East Side tell Eyewitness News they have to travel blocks to find fresh produce.

After Elaine Hoffman joins the program, she will now pick up her produce at the two bridges neighborhood council where it is delivered in bulk each week.
