JetBlue flight from NYC lands due to smoke warning

NEW YORK

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said JetBlue Flight 1117 was diverted to Raleigh-Durham International Airport and landed shortly before 7 p.m. Friday. The crew reported an indication of smoke in a compartment that holds the instrumentation and electronics.

Bergen said the Airbus A320 stopped on the runway so emergency personnel could inspect the aircraft. It taxied to the gate under its own power.

An RDU spokesman said mechanics checked the plane and found no problems. Flightaware.com showed the flight resumed at 10:06 p.m. News reports indicated there were 138 people, including passengers and crewmembers, on board. Jet Blue didn't immediately confirm the totals.
