Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of young Brooklyn mother

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT

The suspect being sought, 21 year old Corey Brown, was taken into custody in New Haven, Connecticut. He is awaiting extradition to Brooklyn.

The shooting happened Oct. 1st in the courtyard of the Lafayette Houses on DeKalb Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Officers found 24-year-old Nicoleia Taylor with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Taylor, the mother of a 4-year-old boy who works with special needs children at night, was walking through the courtyard on her way to the gym when the gunfire erupted. At least five shots were fired.

Detectives were hunting Brown for the past month. His alleged accomplice, 34 year old Allen Shaw, was arrested a few hours after the killing.

Police say Shaw handed off the gun to Brown.

Investigators say the shooting was the culmination of a dispute that started at a baby shower.
