Disney star Laura Marano delivers free books

MANHATTAN

It's part of Capital One's Book by Book campaign, which is helping to put books in the hands of children in need.

Marano, 17, delivered more than 3,000 new books to PS 124 during a surprise visit as part of National Young Readers Day.

The star of Austin and Ally on the Disney Channel posted pictures on Instagram during her visit, writing, "I love my job so much. #ChildrenAreAdorable #BookByBookCampaign."

"I've always wanted to read to kids. I always to give different kids the opportunity to be exposed to all kinds of books, and I think that's what is so great about this campaign," she told Eyewitness News reporter Art McFarland.

Marano said she grew up with an appreciation for books because both of her parents are school teachers.
