Boy, 2, found with heroin at Paterson day care center

PATERSON

Phillip Young, 27, is charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Bail was set at $85,000.

48 glassine envelopes of heroin were found Monday in the boy's jacket, police say, but there were no signs that the child knew the narcotics were there.

A teacher found the drugs and called police, and an investigation led to the arrest of Young.

Police say Young had accompanied the child to the day care center, Michael's Energy Factory, in the morning.

Parents were angry, not told until they heard it from us. "And my babies are in there, are you kidding me,?" said parent Countswella Lampley.

No notice went out. "I wasn't notified, they did not tell me," said parent Lakeemah James.

The school had no comment, but the problem for parents, they say, is that it was a dangerous situation and they should have been told.

"Any of our kids could have went in there and put it in the mouth, what do kids do? They put things in their mouth," said a parent.
