Gas shut off in parts of Flatiron District after main break
Con Ed says contractors came into contact with a high-pressure gas main, so the utility had to turn off service.

FLATIRON DISTRICT, Manhattan (WABC) -- Con Edison says service restoration is expected to start at noon on Sunday for those impacted by a gas leak in the Flatiron District over the weekend.

According to Con Edison, contractors working near Broadway and East 20th Street on Saturday came into contact with a high-pressure gas main when the break happened.

The utilities company said they had to shut off gas main valves to protect the public as a result of the leak.

About 160 services lines and 900 customers were impacted by the gas main break, Con Edison says.

Con Edison says its crews are on scene making the necessary repairs to safely turn service back on.
