Police search for dirt bike driver accused of leaving crash scene in Brooklyn

EAST NEW YORK (WABC) -- Police are searching for a man accused of leaving the scene of an accident that left a teenage girl critically hurt in Brooklyn.

Investigators say the man was driving a dirt bike at a high rate of speed with a 14-year old girl Friday afternoon in East New York, when he crashed into a car on New Jersey Avenue.

The man and his passenger were thrown from the bike.

Police say that's when he ran off, leaving the passenger in the road. The girl was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the car stayed on the scene.

Police say the driver was male, 17 to 20-years-old wearing a black vest and orange shirt.

Detectives form the NYPD's Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad conducted a canvass of the area and were able to obtain a surveillance photo of the suspect running by a Burger King in the vicinity of Linden Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue.
