New action figures aim to empower young girls
Lauren Glassberg reports on a new set of empowering female action figures that have superhero powers that appeal to girls and boys alike

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Honesty, Persistence, Enthusiasm and Industry, some of the all-female actions figures that Dawn Nadeau and Julie Kerwin are designing.

And the story with these figures is one of empowerment. The idea came after Dawn couldn't find female astronaut figures for her daughters to play with.

The action figures she did find were all hyper sexualized with super long legs a tiny waist and large breasts.

A kickstarter campaign helped get production going for the "I am elemental line." notice the normal proportions and unlike more action figures and I Am Elemental figure doesn't need to have splayed legs to sit!

"We really wanted these figures to look like they were ready for action real women but also kind of fierce," said Dawn.

The first 7 figures will be part of the "courage" series. Each will retail for $8.99. A set of 7 will probably cost $55.

You can pre-order now and the figures will be ready by the holidays.

"The ultimate goal is to change the conversation about the way we play and the choices we give kids," adds Dawn.
