ALLERTON (WABC) -- A violent beating and robbery in the Bronx was caught on camera, and authorities are hoping the surveillance video will lead to arrests.
The attack by five men happened in broad daylight in the Allerton section earlier this month, when police say a 25-year-old man was beaten and robbed while walking on Allerton Avenue.
The group came upon the victim very quickly, seen on the video that captured by a deli security camera. The 25-year-old victim was viciously beaten with a baseball bat and then stabbed with a knife or other sharp instrument before all five fled the scene.
"I just see them pummeling him," witness Kenny Walker said. "I'm thinking they are going to kill him. But they didn't. He was limping away."
Walker was just come from the subway when he saw the attack.
"They just started beating him," he said. "I saw one with a poker, and I just kept walking like I didn't see nothing."
The victim later told police the men had also stolen a gold chain from him, but some don't think that was the only motive. Eli Negron, Jr., has lived in the area all his life.
"It's not unusual," he said. "It happens. It's likely to happen. My girlfriend comes yesterday and says there's something going on, mind your business, walk the other way, don't get involved."
The assault took place three weeks ago, but police didn't have a good description of the assailants at first because sources tell Eyewitness News the victim was intoxicated and couldn't provide a description.
So far, no arrests have been made. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
