Teen struck by out-of-control car

13-year-old in critical condition
WESTFIELD Authorities say the boy was hit when the car crashed into 169 Mountain Avenue, which houses a doctor's office.

The car was reportedly traveling down Mountain Avenue when it crashed into the building. The entire front end of the car went in. Authorities say the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle, which jumped the curb right where two boys were walking on the sidewalk.

One was able jump out of the way. The other, police say, didn't have time.

"The point of impact was on the sidewalk," Fairfield Police Captain David Waymen said. "The boy got stuck onto the car and dragged across the street, and when it hit the curbline, he got dislodged from the vehicle."

The boy was airlifted to the hospital. The driver was treated for minor injuries.
