Artillery piece crashes into NJ home

Pet cat later euthanized
JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, NJ No one was injured when the 2-pound piece hit the Jefferson Township home Friday and landed on a young girl's bed. She wasn't home but her cat - which was sleeping on the bed - was injured and had to be euthanized.

The homeowner told authorities that she heard a loud noise around 2:40 p.m. and found the 6-inch by 4-inch object.

Picatinny officials told The Star-Ledger of Newark that they were investigating the incident. The base was conducting three kinds of tests Friday, and it wasn't immediately clear what type of artillery hit the home.
