New year begins with murder in Newark

NEWARK, N.J. Police said 3:00 Thursday morning two men were shot while sitting in a parked 1992 Buick Century on Chadwick Avenue.

The driver, 26-year-old Robert Curry of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other shooting victim was taken to a local hospital.

A third person in the car was not injured.

The shooter remained at large.

In 2008, the city had 67 murders - an eight-year-low.
