Beltran battles a stomach bug

PITTSBURGH Beltran stayed at the team hotel while New York played the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night. He hasn't played since Saturday against Florida.

Starter John Maine has also been dealing with a stomach bug. He pitched six shutout innings Sunday but was feeling ill the whole time.

The Mets say the illnesses are unrelated to one that has afflicted a television production employee who regularly travels with the team.

Assistant general manager John Ricco said the unidentified employee is being treated and isolated from the rest of the team and traveling party while it is determined what strain of flu he is suffering from.

In other Mets' injury news, the team placed outfielder Angel Pagan on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin.

Infielder Alex Cora was activated from the disabled list to take his place. Cora has not played since May 17 due to a torn ligament in his right thumb.

The Mets also announced that injured regulars Jose Reyes and Ryan Church reported to Port Sr. Lucie, Fla., to participate in extended spring training games as part of their rehabilitation.

Shortstop Reyes was placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 21 with tendinitis behind his right calf. Outfielder Church hasn't played since May 23 because of a right hamstring strain.
