FDNY disciplines 7 in fatal ground zero blaze

NEW YORK The blaze at the former Deutsche Bank building killed two firefighters and sparked years of finger-pointing over who was to blame for the fiasco.

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta announced Wednesday that a captain and a deputy chief were being permanently stripped of their commands.

The commissioner says the men failed to make sure that the building was properly inspected.

Five other deputy and battalion chiefs have also been reprimanded.

The officer tower was being demolished when the fire broke out.

Firefighting efforts were hampered by a broken standpipe.
