Couple opens thrift store in Saginaw County

SAGINAW COUNTY This year, they opened a new business. Now they're living their dream and paying the bills at the same time.

"People drive by here so many times before they stop in sometimes, simply because this just looks like a big old barn," Duane said.

But once they do stop, they find the Angels Corner Thrift Shop and Collectibles.

"Our thrift shop idea was a long term goal for us," Lori said.

After Lori lost her job in Florida, the couple moved home to Michigan.

"It is a huge leap of faith, but we recognize the signs," Lori said.

In January, outside the 100-year-old dairy barn, they saw the first sign.

"Jerry Cushman, who owns the barn, put up a sign outside that said 'barn for sale or for rent,' " Lori said.

A few months later, the Beckers opened their thrift shop.

From antiques to collectibles, there's a little bit of everything at the store and 20 local vendors supply the treasures.

"We do not want to have to order any merchandise for the barn outside of our little community here," Lori said.

The Beckers are the only employees, unless you count Mrs. Cushman.

"She just takes care of the few little critters that are around," Duane said.

The store became a reality years before they thought it would, but the Beckers aren't complaining.

"Somehow, the bills get paid, vendors get paid, our customers are happy and we're OK," Lori said.
