Coming up: The Stars of NY Dance, Dec. 18

NEW YORK That's when the 3rd annual edition of the "The Stars of New York Dance" will take place at the Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts in Brooklyn at 7 p.m.

For the cause of raising scholarship funds for children of low-income communities in the city, contestants will show off their moves -- after three weeks of rigorous training -- on the dance floor in a judged competition inspired popular "Dancing With The Stars" show (as seen on ABC7).

The event, which will be hosted by political anchor Errol Louis, will honor the work of Rev. Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood, the executive pastor and spiritual engineer at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. The contestants will be paired up with six professional dance artists who will vie for a $5,000 dance scholarship for their particular dance organization. The competitors are as follows:

  • Eric Adams, New York State senator of the 20th district in Brooklyn, will dance with Jasmine Poole of Balance Dance Theater
  • Rev. Richard Honeywell, associate paster of St. Paul Community Baptist Church, will dance with Naeemah Brown of the Cradle-N-the-Rock Youth Dance Ensemble
  • Darlene Mealy, New York City Council member of the 41st district in Brooklyn, will dance with Kevin Joseph of Pureelements: An Evolution in Dance
  • Kevin S. Parker, New York State senator of the 21st district in Brooklyn, will dance with Zakiya M. Harris of Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater
  • John L. Simmpson, New York State senator of the 19th district in Brooklyn, will dance with Serina E. Young of Synergism School of Dance
  • Donna White, teacher at Trey Whitfield School, will dance with Victor Reddick of Creative Outlet Dance
The event begins at 5:30pm with a VIP cocktail reception. The theather is located at One University Plaza in Brooklyn. Tickets are $75 for general admission and $125 for VIP seating and the cocktail reception. Tickets may be purchased at www.kumbletheater.org or by calling (718) 488-1624.
