Police investigate 4-year-old child's fatal fall from high-rise building in Stamford, Connecticut
STAMFORD, Connecticut (WABC) -- She doesn't know the child. She doesn't know the family.
But 73-year-old neighbor and great-grandmother Joyce Malachi just couldn't hold back the tears.
"That child should be playing, laughing, having a good time," she told Eyewitness News. "That child should be alive, not dead."
Malachi has the same questions as police and fire investigators.
They arrived at 77 Prospect street Monday afternoon in a search for answers.

The tragedy happened about 7:20pm Sunday at a 12-story high-rise apartment building in downtown Stamford.
"The window was open, and there was a screen between the window and the child," said Stamford Police Sgt. Sean Boeger. "But obviously there was not enough to hold the child back. So currently we are trying to determine exactly how he fell out of the window. But what we do not suspect is any type of foul play."
Sergeant Boeger told us there are no regulations that mandate guards in high-rise apartment windows.
And that is difficult for Julian Gittens to understand.
He also lives on Prospect Street not far from the tragic scene. He popped out of his apartment last night to find out what happened.
He's still shaken by what he saw.
"I believe an uncle was pleading with police, trying to get back there and see," he said. "I believe the father came around and he was desperately looking for his son, saying that. And he ended up going to the hospital with his wife."
