The early morning storm brought much-needed rain but caused a flurry of accidents and traffic on several freeways and roads as it moved east.
There was a jackknifed oil tanker reported on the 5 Freeway and 134 Freeway interchange. A couple of cars also spun out on local freeways. There were no serious injuries reported from these incidents.
Wet roads may have also caused a six-car pileup reported in the Cahuenga Pass. Six vehicles including cars, SUVs, and a pickup slammed into one another on the 101 Freeway near Barham Boulevard in Studio City. It's unclear if anyone was seriously hurt in the accident.
Tuesday was the second morning in a row that motorists heading to work had to deal with the rainy conditions. Nothing was left dry once the early morning downpour hit the Southland from Duarte to Long Beach, Northridge and Westwood.
Cars were seen driving through lakes of rain water in Studio City as storm drains failed to handle the torrent of rain.
As if slick roads weren't bad enough for Southland drivers, the rain caused a rockslide in the Mulholland Drive area. Motorists had to dodge and maneuver around boulders near the area.
Tuesday was cool, with temperatures in the mid-60s in the Los Angeles-Metro area, Orange County, the Inland Empire, Valleys and high desert. The mountains saw highs in the upper 40s. The rain was expected to continue throughout the morning.
Once the sun came up around noon, pedestrials dealt with the elements. Many kept umbrellas handy. Others didn't and were drenched.
"It's unusual weather but I love the rain," said Francesca Castro of El Monte.
Some motorists had a different point of view.
"I want to drive faster. Everyone's driving a lot slower on the freeways," said Stephan Yoeng of El Monte.
Rain and asphalt make a dangerous combination causing roads to become as slick as ice.
Officials urge drivers to be mindful of the slick roads, slow down, and give each other more space between cars when driving on the freeway. The same rules apply when driving on surface streets.
