BREAST CANCER: ANSWERS, UPDATES & PROGRESS

NEW YORK "BREAST CANCER: ANSWERS, UPDATES & PROGRESS"

Host: Eyewitness News Anchor Diana Williams

In fact, this year ABC is proud to be working very closely with the American Cancer Society in an initiative we're referring to as "going pink". Our goal is to work together on raising more awareness about the importance of early detection and genetic testing.

Survivors share personal stories in the hope that it can help others. We feature progress being made in treatment and management of Lymphedema. Therapists work with a survivor on managing her Lymphedema which started a year after she finished her treatment. The programs also features a new clinical trial where Doctors are excited about the possibility of preventing Lymphedema in the first place. With the latest Supreme Court ruling ending the ability to patent the breast cancer genes and the wide public interest in the prophylactic measures taken by Angelina Jolie, we feature a New Jersey family with a surprising story of four siblings who all test positive for these genes and how they deal with their health care issues.

There continues to be controversy on when women should start with their baseline mammograms and one survivor is a perfect example of the confusion that exists. It turns out that her life was saved due to a decision she made that related to fertility and the freezing of eggs. We also feature a very promising trial being conducted on a technique called Cryoablation which involves the freezing of tumors and then follows that up with immune therapy to reduce the risk of a recurrence.

If you're a Jeopardy fan, and was by intrigued by "Watson" the computer that did very well on the show, you will enjoy knowing that Watson is working hard with Oncologists on improving the ability to determine the best care for a patient. We also feature some groundbreaking research on quality of life issues that measures the impact of cancer care on employment and income in underserved populations.

Experts featured include Doctors and researchers from Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Atlantic Health Systems, Murray Hill Radiology and the American Cancer Society.
