Investigators say they found evidence connecting 62-year-old Charles Williams to unsolved child murders.
Williams was one of 115 alleged drug dealers arrested in Hackensack Monday. He is accused of selling heroin and oxycodone to an undercover officer.
Williams served 16 years and is on lifetime parole for luring, sodomizing and killing two boys in Virginia back in 1969.
Based on interactions with Williams, police believe he could have information on cold case murders.
He is charged with three counts of distribution of narcotics and three counts of distribution near a public park. While working in an undercover capacity, one of the officers was introduced to Williams for the purpose of purchasing narcotics. But while interacting with Williams and others associats, the officer learned of a stabbing Williams had committed on February 6, 2014.
As a result, Williams was charged with aggravated assault in the stabbing of a 24-year-old male in the chest with a kitchen knife.
The operation is considered the largest narcotics crackdown in the city's history, with several hundred drug purchases being made by undercover police officers involving heroin, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana, Molly, Roxy and Oxy.
Officers also purchased what is being referred to on the street as "Pink Crack/Strawberry Crack," which users have indicated give them a greater high and may be cooked up with a mixture of cocaine and methamphetamine. Officers also purchased marijuana dipped in embalming fluid known on the street as "WET". Aside from narcotics, several officers also purchased handguns.
Other notable arrests include James Rogers, who was previously convicted in 2004 of aggravated sexual assault for raping his male victim, who was developmentally disabled.
Garden State Plaza Mall shooter Richard Shoop was also set to be arrested. Shoop was taken into custody in April while delivering Molly near Anderson Street Park. Information was received that Shoop was involved with others in the importing of raw materials from China to manufacture their own MDMA. Then, on October 24, 2013, Shoop sold the drug to an undercover officer. Ten days later, he took his own life at the Garden State Plaza. A note left by Shoop indicated that he had suspected he was under investigation. Toxicology reports show Shoop had "Molly" MDMA in his system.
