The victim was shot around 5 p.m. at 300 Cherry St., at the LaGuardia Houses, which is across the street from P.S. 184.
The Department of Education said the school was placed on "shelter-in" status because the suspect was unaccounted for. There were 572 staff and students in the building at the time.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
