2 people, dog rescued from burning boat off Ocean City coast

OCEAN CITY -- Two people and a dog were rescued from a burning boat near Ocean City, New Jersey late Sunday morning.

The New Jersey Coast Guard says a 46-foot sailboat caught fire and sank about three miles off the coast.

The two people in the boat were able to safely evacuate after the fire started and were in a dinghy when Coast Guard rescue crews arrived on scene about 10 minutes later.

The boaters will be evaluated to see if any medical attention is needed.

A number of viewers and reporters on the beach at the time of the fire sent in photos and videos of the smoke seen coming from the ocean.
