KINGSBRIDGE, Bronx (WABC) -- An 81-year-old woman with dementia who walked out of her Bronx nursing home on Friday was found safe at a Starbucks in Lower Manhattan.

A Good Samaritan saw Myrtle Singleton, noticed that she was disoriented and called an ambulance. She had been missing for more than 24 hours.

The family is thankful she was located but wonder how Singleton was able to walk out of Plaza Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Kingsbridge in the middle of the night and wander more than 15 miles away.

The entrance and exit from the building have a security guard, but no one reported seeing her leave.

The Plaza Rehabilitation and Nursing Center issued a statement, saying it's taking the incident "very seriously."

Singleton is currently at Bellevue Hospital being evaluated.
