BRONX, N.Y. (WABC) -- A five-alarm fire that blazed out of control for hours in the early morning hours Friday is still burning.

The Food Dynasty supermarket in Hunts Point was reported on fire around 12:30 a.m.

"The fire is still very active. The supermarket's fully involved, the roof is still actively burning. We have a heavy body of fire that's made its way to the rear of the store," said NYFD Deputy Chief Anthony Montera.

He said that the fire was contained to the supermarket, which is between two apartment buildings. About eight apartments in each building were evacuated, around 50 to 100 people, but by noon all residents were allowed to return home. No vacate orders were issued.

"We believe it started in the ceiling level in the middle of the store, near some equipment in that area and quickly spread throughout the cockloft and through the roof," he said.

Nearly 200 firefighters responded. Two firefighters had minor injuries and one child was treated for smoke inhalation.

"It's very tricky. The rear is very hard (to gain) access to ... We're continuing to reposition lines to keep it contained to the supermarket and we're having success with that," said Montera.

The investigation into the cause has started, but officials said the fire may have started in a ceiling area.
