NANUET, Rockland County (WABC) -- There's a warning about a burglary ring targeting parked cars operating in Bergen and Rockland counties.
Police say there have been a number of recent break-ins believed to be tied to a national syndicate.
The group smashes windows to steal purses or wallets that are typically left in plain sight.
It's happening primarily at gyms or in parks where people are off exercising.
One car owner who doesn't want to be identified told Eyewitness news what happened to her in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.
"We rounded the corner and we saw that my car window had been shattered. A gentleman came up to us and said that I was the second car to be hit that afternoon. And when we looked more closely, we could see that my purse in the front seat had been taken," the victim said.
Five cars that were broken into recently at the Nanuet Little League are also believed to be connected to this string of burglaries.
