Central Park's Shakespeare Garden celebrates 100th anniversary
CENTRAL PARK, Manhattan (WABC) -- Shakespeare Garden is a four-acre landscape in Central Park. The garden features flowers and plants mentioned in Shakespeare's poems and plays.
In 1880, a black mulberry from his hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon, England was planted in the park.
The garden was created in 1913. It was renamed for the playwright in 1916 and dedicated to his memory.
Saturday, April 23, 2016 marks 400 years since Shakespeare died. This year the Central Park Conservancy is celebrating the garden's 100th Anniversary. The Central Park Conservancy is offering tours through this weekend.
