Dad: Boy struck in Brooklyn hit and run in pain, but will be OK

BOROUGH PARK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Police continue to search for the driver involved in a hit-and-run accident in Brooklyn that injured a 6-year-old boy.

The boy's father told Eyewitness News that his son is still in a lot of pain, but he will be OK. The hit and run was caught on camera, and sources say police have a clear shot of the license plate.

Now, they are trying to determine who was behind the wheel.

Detectives in Borough Park are honing in on their suspect, seen on surveillance driving black Toyota Sienna with TLC license plates that struck the boy and fled the scene.

"Sometimes the drivers, they drive like crazy," witness Sonia Gonzalez said. "How you going to leave a child on the floor?"

It happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday, as the boy was crossing Hamilton Parkway at 41st Street with his father. In this video, you can see the boy stop to pick something up just before he's struck.

The video then shows the driver getting out of the minivan and walking around the back of the vehicle before hopping back in and driving away.

"It is heartless," Belinda Rodriguez said. "It's heartless to do something like this to someone's child."

A TLC spokesperson said the agency is always looking to assist the NYPD, but cannot comment further citing an ongoing investigation.

"That's a horrible situation," Joslyn Cruz said. "What parent would want, first of all, their kid to be hit, and then this other person who's responsible, just take off?"

The boy was taken to Maimonides Hospital with a broken hand, broken foot and cuts and bruises all over his body.
