NEW YORK -- Navigating the college admissions process for families of a new or returning college student is always a challenge - and perhaps never more so than during this fall of 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The list of questions and problems to be resolved may seem endless, but there are ways to plan and to cope.



abc7NY.com hosted a conversation with Adelphi University to discuss the process, sharing expertise and taking your questions.

ABC7NY Sports Anchor and Reporter Sam Ryan


Sam Ryan, who is an Emmy-award winning sports anchor and reporter who returned home to WABC in 2018.



She is an avid runner, having completed 10 marathons, including four NYC Marathons. She is the mother of a first-year college student. She is an NYRR Team for Kids Ambassador who is passionate about promoting youth fitness.



Kristen Capezza, Vice President of Enrollment Management and University Communications


Kristen Capezza, who has been a member of the Adelphi University community for nearly 12 years. Capezza serves as Adelphi's Vice President of Enrollment Management and University Communications. Overseeing the leadership and development of over 80 individuals spanning three departments, Capezza is committed to ensuring a smooth college search and enrollment process for students and families. Prior to this role, she served in increasingly senior positions at Adelphi including Executive Director of University Admissions and Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management. Capezza holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Finance from Bryant University, an MBA in Marketing from Adelphi University, and a certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Adelphi University.



Stephanie Espina, Director of Undergraduate Admissions


Stephanie Espina, who serves as Adelphi University's director of undergraduate admissions. She has been a member of the team since 2015. Prior to Adelphi, Espina served as an admissions counselor at Marist College from 2009-15. Joining at a critical time of advancement and change at Adelphi University, Espina leads a dynamic team of more than 30 admissions professionals in navigating a challenging environment and changing high school demographics throughout the industry of higher education.

The sense of doom grew, especially after March 1, when the first confirmed case arrived in Manhattan. Soon, there was a hotspot in New Rochelle, and small curfews and containment zones across the area offered a hint of a frightening future we still thought we could avoid.
