NEW YORK (WABC) -- The FDNY is reminding all New Yorkers to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors when they change their clocks for the end of Daylight Saving Time.
Throughout the weekend, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to interact with the FDNY Fire Safety Education Unit and to learn potentially life-saving lessons in fire safety.
"A working smoke detector is vital to escaping and surviving a fire," said Commissioner Nigro. "Every year, in the vast majority of fire-related deaths in New York City there is no working smoke detector present, this simple device gives New Yorkers the critical moments needed to escape their homes in the event of a fire."
As part of this semi-annual outreach effort, members of the FDNY Fire Safety Education Team are distributing 30,000 batteries, along with electronic candles and fire safety literature in multiple languages, at 27 transportation hubs and shopping centers throughout the five boroughs. The batteries were generously donated to the FDNY Foundation by Duracell.
Below, please find the locations and times for FDNY Fire Safety Education events, where they will be distributing educational materials as well as smoke alarms and batteries, taking place during this weekend.
