Son of former New York Islander arrested in death of former New York Ranger Derek Boogaard

CHELSEA (WABC) -- The son of former New York Islander Gary Hart was arrested Tuesday in connection with the drug overdose death of former New York Ranger Derek Boogaard.

Jordan Hart was taken into custody on Long Island.

He will appear in federal court in Lower Manhattan Tuesday.

Boogaard died of a drug and alcohol overdose in a Minneapolis apartment in May 2011.

It is alleged that Hart provided the prescription painkillers that killed Boogaard.

The father of Boogaard helped the DEA track down Jordan Hart, a minor league hockey player, and the doctor in Utah who wrote the prescriptions, authorities say.
