SOUTHAMPTON, Long Island (WABC) -- Police say a car crashed into a home on Long Island early Sunday and burst into flames, but fortunately no one in the car or the house was seriously hurt.

At about 1:14 a.m., police received a 911 call from a residence on Hayground Road in Watermill reporting that a vehicle had crashed into the home.

There were two adults and one child in the residence at the time.

No one in the house was injured, but the home suffered significant damage.

Two people were in the car. The passenger of the vehicle suffered a minor injury to her hand and was taken to Southampton Hospital.

The driver, Alec H. Wasser, age 21, of Watermill, was not injured.

Initial investigation indicates the car was traveling northbound on Hayground Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the home, police said.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was intoxicated, according to police.

He was arrested at the scene, transported to police headquarters for processing, and held for morning arraignment.
