Trial of Michael Grasing, charged in DWI crash that killed Brittney Walsh, to begin today

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (WABC) -- The murder trial in a Long Island DWI case is set to begin in Suffolk County Thursday.

Michael Grasing is the first person on Long Island charged with murder in a drunk-driving incident in six years. He's accused of killing 18-year-old Brittney Walsh two years ago.

Prosecutors say Grasing was driving 100 miles per hour when he rear-ended Walsh's SUV in Lindenhurst with such force that she was killed instantly.. At the time, police said that Grasing was so drunk that he was barely conscious. Walsh was killed while driving home from work, just two days after her graduation from Copaigue High School.

Police also revealed that Grasing, a married father, had a blood alcohol content of .30 after the crash, almost four times the legal limit. Grasing had just minor injuries.
