Brutal fight video inside New Brunswick High School posted on social media

NEW BRUNSWICK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Shocking video captured two students brawling inside a high school hallway in New Jersey.

A 16-year-old student is charged with assault, but did the school do enough?

The video of the fight was posted on social media.

The family of the 15-year-old involved in the fight wants to know why no one jumped in sooner to stop it.

The young victim is doing a lot better physically, but mentally he's afraid to go back to school.

His parents want to see the young man who did this to their child expelled.

"On my way to my lunch to my lunch period I was assaulted by a kid I barely knew," said Oscar Aparicio, Jr., the victim.

Cell phone video captures the brutal takedown at New Brunswick High School on Thursday.

You see 15-year-old Oscar Aparicio, defenseless as a much larger teen, a junior at the school, savagely beats him in the hallway.

Eyewitness News sat down with him and his family, as he relived that terrible day.

"I had no idea what was happening, once I was on the floor, I couldn't react," Aparicio Jr. said.

The assault, some of which is too violent to show, goes on for 26 seconds.

"Did I say you could get up," you hear the attacker say on the video.

A security guard finally pushed the teen away from him. Police say the dispute was over a female student.

"I was being told that he was hearing rumors about me talking bad, but I never was," Aparicio Jr. said.

Aparicio's family says they are outraged by how the school handled the situation, no ambulance was called.

"I want justice for my son because that school never tell me you need an ambulance or something, never, never," said Oscar Aparicio, Sr., the victim's father.

"There was a female security guard, and in the video you can actually see her, she was witnessing the whole thing that was going on," Aparicio Jr. said.

His attacker, who they say is on the wrestling team, faces assault charges, and was suspended from the school.

New Brunswick school officials issued Eyewitness News this statement: "We can say that protocols were followed and the safety and security of our students remains a top priority. We can also report that the incident was immediately reported to the New Brunswick Police Department."

"A lot of parents who have kids in that school say that this always happens, this happened three months ago and the school didn't do anything about it, because I didn't say anything," said Pedro Herrera, the victim's uncle.

The Aparicio's want to see that student expelled. They say he's on the wrestling team and could've hurt their son even worse.

They are planning to protest Tuesday outside the Board of Education's headquarters.
