NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Firefighters battled a raging three-alarm fire in Newark Monday afternoon.

The flames broke out at a three-story building on Bergen Street around 3 p.m. and quickly spread to two neighboring three-story structures.

Firefighters fought the blaze from the outside because of the intensity of the flames.

A good portion of the original fire building - 212 Bergen Street - has collapsed.

Fire officials say the it was an older construction frame that extended to a new and fairly new buildings, which were the other locations of the fire.

Two of the buildings were occupied by tenants, while the third remains under determination. It is unclear if it is vacant or unoccupied and under construction.

At this point, it does not appear that there were any injuries.

The Red Cross is providing temporary housing to 11 people in eight families.
