HARLEM (WABC) -- Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a multi-alarm fire at store and apartment building in Harlem Tuesday morning.
The three-alarm fire started around 9:20 a.m. inside a building 139th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard.
Officials said the flames appeared to start inside a store before spreading to the apartments.
Instagram users said a 99 Cent Store was burning.
One man told Eyewitness News reporter Lisa Colagrossi that he had to carry out his 91-year-old mother with the help of their home health aide. She is doing fine.
Most residents were able to self evacuate, but officials said three people did sustain minor injuries.
The FDNY also tweeted out a picture of a hero firefighter who saved someone's pet.
The fire declared under control more than an hour later.
