HEMPSTEAD (WABC) -- A couple walking with an infant in a stroller escaped injury when shots were fired at them in Hempstead Thursday afternoon.
The couple was walking on Front Street when a suspect opened fire at them just before 12:30 p.m., authorities said.
The couple and their one year old child were not hurt. Police believe preliminarily that the man may have been the intended target.
The suspect, who emerged from between two buildings and opened fire, ran to a waiting car and drove off.
Hempstead Village police were initially alerted to the shooting by ShotSpotter.
There have been no arrests.
