WEST HEMPSTEAD (WABC) -- A cab driver from Queens is under arrest and facing charges in connection with a hit and run on Long Island.

Jeffrey Bernard is being held on $50,000 bail after police say he slammed his cab into another car in West Hempstead Friday and then fled the scene.

The other driver eventually caught up with the 36-year-old Bernard.

The 18-year-old man of the other vehicle followed him and was calling for help when police say Bernard grabbed the phone from his hand and again drove off.

Police say the teenager held on to the back of the taxi and was dragged a few blocks, injuring his elbow and leg.

Bernard is charged with robbery, criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident.

He was arrested Saturday at his home.
