3 more Legionnaires' disease cases confirmed in the Bronx; total in new outbreak up to 10

MORRIS PARK, N.Y. (WABC) -- Three more cases of Legionnaires' disease have been confirmed in a newly-discovered cluster in the Bronx Tuesday.

Sources told Eyewitness News that the three new cases are in the Morris Park section, bringing the total number of cases to 10.

All 10 cases were all contracted before Sept. 21, officials said. But the health department is usually made aware of them in waves.

Nine of the 10 people sickened remain hospitalized as of Tuesday night. The youngest affected is 45 years old. Each had an underlying medical condition.

This outbreak comes a little more than a month after the city identified the source of another Legionnaires' disease outbreak in South Bronx and declared that outbreak as being resolved.

The new outbreak of seven cases was announced Monday. Officials do not believe the new outbreak is connected with the last one.

Health officials say each of the towers had been disinfected weeks ago, which has some concerned.

They added that residents should be vigilant and get treated if they develop symptoms.
