Long Island teens charged with stealing from cars at LIRR station

CENTRAL ISLIP (WABC) -- Five teens are under arrest on charges of breaking into commuters cars at a Long Island Railroad parking lot.

Police say the break-ins started last month at the Central Islip LIRR station.

According to investigators, the teens stole cash and items from the cars, and a BB gun was recovered that had been used to shoot up and break windows in a number of cars.

Jose Mendoza, 18, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged with five counts of Criminal Mischief 4th Degree and one count of Petit Larceny.

Gerardo Ramirezperez, 17, Central Islip, was charged with five counts of Criminal Mischief 4th Degree and two counts of Petit Larceny.

Three juveniles were also arrested and charged with three counts of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree.

Approximately 15 cars were damaged. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
