NEW YORK (WABC) -- The nation's longest government shutdown has ended, but Americans have been dealing with the consequences for weeks and it will take some time to get things back to normal, including for residents across the Tri-State.
Federal workers are now waiting for their backpay, airline passengers continue to face delays and cancellations, and nearly 42 million Americans who depend on SNAP benefits are looking forward to those being restored.
The FAA cuts have caused disruptions at the major New York City-area airports since Friday.

Flights still impacted day after government shutdown ends
The government shutdown has ended, but the FAA is holding flight reductions at 6% on Thursday morning.
Now that there's a shutdown resolution, air traffic controllers will start to get paid within 24-48 hours. They'll get the full amount owed to them within a week.
Thursday morning, Eyewitness News saw flight reductions at 5% at Newark Airport, 3% at LaGuardia Airport, and 2% at JFK Airport.

Food giveaway for federal workers impacted by shutdown in Brooklyn
An emergency food giveaway is underway in Brooklyn for federal workers who are still missing paychecks.
The Food Bank for New York City has teamed up with Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso to help workers impacted by the shutdown.
Joe Torres reports from Downtown Brooklyn.
It was the Food Bank for NYC's third emergency food distribution for federal workers.
Other events were held in Queens and at JFK Airport.

House set to vote on ending government shutdown
The House will be in session on Wednesday for the first time in 54 days, with all eyes on a vote to end the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
The House is expected to hold first votes shortly after 5 p.m. ET on Senate-passed legislation to reopen the government with a final vote after 7 p.m.
Wednesday marks the 43rd day of the shutdown, shattering the previous 35-day record.
