LI firefighter gets hero's welcome after returning home from hospital

MIDDLE ISLAND, Long Island (WABC) -- On Long Island, firefighters gave one of their own a hero's homecoming.

Nick Heege suffered from a spinal fracture and broken ribs in an accident while he was battling a brush fire in Calverton last week.

On Sunday, dozens of fire trucks from neighborhoods across Suffolk County lined his narrow Middle Island street to welcome him home.
