Mother, 5-year-old son found dead in Jersey City apartment

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (WABC) -- A mother in her 20s and her 5-year-old son were found unconscious in their home on Lincoln Street in Jersey City Wednesday.

Police were called to the home around 6 p.m. for two unconscious people, a woman and child, in their second-floor apartment.

They were taken to Christ Hospital, where they were pronounced dead just before 6:30 p.m.

Jersey City Fire Department tested the air quality and so far all tests have come back negative for carbon monoxide.

Prosecutors are considering their deaths suspicious. It is unclear who made the 911 call alerting police.
