NJ Burkett has more from Long Island City.

BROOKLYN (WABC) -- Some New York City subway riders will have to make alternate plans beginning Friday night.

G train service between Brooklyn and Queens will be closed for five weeks.

The MTA is shutting down the Greenpoint Tunnel until September to repair damage from Superstorm Sandy.

Service will still run between Church Avenue and Nassau Avenue in Brooklyn. Shuttle buses will run on two routes to help commuters get around the closures.
