Police officer hurt in Wantagh crash that closed westbound Sunrise Highway

WANTAGH, Long Island (WABC) -- A Nassau County police officer was injured in a crash that closed the westbound Sunrise Highway in Wantagh Friday morning.

Authorities say the officer was assisting a disabled motorist when his cruiser was rear-ended in the westbound lanes.

The officer is said to be conscious, alert and in stable condition at the hospital.

Westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway are closed for the investigation.
