Newark police sergeant fires weapon at suspect

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- An investigation is underway after a Newark police sergeant fired his weapon at a suspect.

No one was injured.

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. Sunday near Broadway and 7th Avenue.

There was a heavy police presence in the area as investigators tried to figure out what led the sergeant to open fire.
